From Martin, Sweden

Martin, Sweden

This town is about half an hour by car from where I live. I came here because I feel at home with the area, the people, and the culture of Sweden. And for love, of course, as you do. And the freedom to be myself in a beautiful place. I moved here from the UK when Cameron announced his referendum. I'd only recently retired there from Belgium. My life here? I live in a log cabin with my 2 cats. I look across a lake. Right now, in February, it's frozen. Sometimes at the weekends I see an ice fisherman or a cross country skier on their way somewhere.

This postcard is one of several collated as part of collaboration between Dr Michaela Benson and the Migration Museum. A selection of these appears in the Postcards from the British in Europe installation in Departures, the museum's current exhibition exploring four centuries of emigration from Britain, bringing Britain’s emigration story and its emigrants into the national conversation about migration
